Jadransko krifò, signifie littéralement «adriatique», en bosniaque, et «secret» mot tiré du griko, un dialecte d’origine grecque parlé dans le sud-est de l’Europe, en Italie. Le titre de ce travail est une invitation au voyage et à la
(re)découverte des racines profondes de notre continent.

Jandrasko krifò propose un parcours à travers les frontières à l’identité tiraillée, qui inscrit originellement son histoire au-delà de l’Adriatique, au cœur même des Balkans. La photographie pour rendre compte de cet Orient, de Byzance, pourtant bien présente mais que l’on préfère tenir cachée aujourd’hui pour incompatibilités économiques sans doute? Pourtant c’est cela, Jandrasko krifò : des clichés en mouvement pour rendre compte d’une Europe dont les frontières ne sont pas nettes mais fluides, où les passages culturels et les diversités sont absorbés par la logique du territoire et de l’histoire: le trait physique supplanté par le trait cartographique.

Ceux qui connaissent les côtes de l’Adriatique pour les avoir longuement observées, savent que l’Europe identitaire ne peut exister sainement si amputée de son corps oriental. Ce voyage, qui emprunte les voies et les moyens de transports qui ont caractérisé les plus importantes traversées migratoires de notre continent, tente de mettre en lumière ce lien identitaire. Nous ne pouvons vivre en paix tant que nous n’avons pas saisi nos racines, libres à nous de les cultiver ou les arracher mais nous devons les prendre en main.

Jadransko krifò, literally means Adriatic in Bosnian, and secret, a word drawn from Griko, a Greek dialect, only spoken in the south-eastern Europe, In Italy. The title of this exhibit is an invitation to wander and (re)discover the very origins our continents identity.
Jadransko krifò, suggests a path to take to understand how torn and complex the face of Europe is. That its roots lie way across the Adriatic Ocean, deep in the heart of the Balkans.

Photography has been chosen to capture the unpopular and unaccepted origins of our identity. The common opinion feels deeply uncomfortable towards the byzantine -not to say Muslim- background of Europe, certainly for economic reasons. But anyway, let’s admit that History is what it is: Jadransko krifò.

Moving pictures, moments captured in motion on that path, showing the reality of the undefined, blurred and unclear European borders. Our continent is so much more than countries, limits and landlines: it’s rather more fluid. A permanent evolving constellation of migrating people, waves of cultural mixes and exchanges. But all this, has been forgotten and absorbed by the concept of territory and land ownership.

Those who know the Adriatic shores, who have closely observed them, are aware that the identity of Europe cannot define itself if separated from its oriental background. This voyage, this trip, across the oriental Europe has chosen to exclusively use means of transport and routes that have been taken by the main migration waves.
This exhibit intends to say that if we haven’t fully understood where we come from, we will not be able to live in peace with one other. Freedom is left to us though, either to cultivate those byzantine roots or tear them apart. Either way, something should be done.
